Make sure your coals are evenly distributed in your campfire ring. Place hot coals on top of the cast iron so both sides get heat. Keep a shovel, fire safety gloves and any fire safety equipment nearby

Ingredients
Campfire Bread
- 3 cups warm water
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 4 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast (2 packets)
- 9 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Strawberry Jam
- 3 cups of strawberries
- 1/2 cup sugar
Instructions
- In a bowl combine warm water, butter, and yeast; let sit until it becomes foamy.
- Combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Mix with your hands until dough comes together. Add flour as need if it sticks too much.
- Once the dough comes together, let rise in the cast iron about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Uncover and turn the risen dough out of the bowl, shape carefully into a ball.
- Carefully transfer the dough inside the pot. Replace the lid and bake for 40 to 45 minutes over the hot coals.
- While the bread is baking, chop your strawberries into small pieces.
- Throw them in a small cast iron skillet with your the sugar.
- Mix with a wooden spoon for five minutes until the sugar starts to bubble and the strawberries break down into a thick compote.
- Take off the hot coals and let cool. Distribute into a glass jar and save for later.
